Working on the very dynamic song Sparrows. and listening closely to the mix leads me to be disgusted with mp3 compression.

Of course it's always been there with mp3 files, but we tend to say "oh, at 256K they aren't so bad" and get over it.  Well, they really are so bad, especially if you've got a clean 24 bit .wav file to compare them to.

I don't know, I've read that some people prefer that sound, and it doesn't surprise me.  I used to "like" the sound of cassette tapes...

The .wav sample does sound better but the question is do people care anymore. I listen to most of my music in the car or in the kitchen, (I have an old 3 piece Sony that I hooked up with some audio source speakers),they sound pretty good. My kids get 95% of their music off of the internet and they want it as fast as possible I have explained to them that a flac file sounds better but they don't want to deal with the file size. As you said ignorance is bliss. Thanks for the samples, the intimacy that you capture is remarkable. It reminds me of the stuff I hear in the campground of the Philadelphia Folk Festival that I attended recently, Richard Thompson was great as usual as was Taj Mahal. Heard this new local band, Cheers Elephant, they were pretty exciting, Bert
